Mac users were feeling so secure and proud that they refrained from using any anti-virus software; they thought they ran the most secure OS ever. It all went to vain when apple Macintosh announced (read advised) last month to install some of the recommended anti-virus available in market.
In its support article dated 21st November apple advised its subscriber to install any one of the following antivirus software. (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2550)
- Intego VirusBarrier X5
- Symantec Norton Anti-Virus 11 for Macintosh
- McAfee VirusScan for Mac
Apple website quotes “Apple encourages the widespread use of multiple antivirus utilities so that virus programmers have more than one application to circumvent, thus making the whole virus writing process more difficult.”
Though these anti-virus were available out there for sometime, mac users were not particular to install any because of the trust they had in their OS. It is believed that Apple wants to prevent web based malicious code attack via browsers on its users and not to prevent any newly discovered virus out there. Web based malicious codes are used to hack into victims PCs and launch zombies.
