The Cyber Czar
Posted in Uncategorized by admin at 9:50 am | No Comments »

The internet began as ARPAnet, a U. S. Deparment of Defense project back in the 1960s. Although security must have been a prime concern at that time, by the 1980s something had gone terribly wrong.

Not too late to correct. Obama will appoint Cyber Czar to coordinate efforts to secure government networks and U.S. critical infrastructures. The czar will be responsible for orchestrating and integrating all cyber security policies for the government, working with the Office of Management and Budget to ensure that agencies have money allocated for cyber security priorities, and coordinating the government’s response to a major cyber incident or attack.

“As president, I’ll make cyber security the top priority that it should be in the 21st century,” Obama said in a in a speech at Purdue University. “Our pursuit of cyber security will not include — I repeat, will not include — monitoring private sector networks or internet traffic,” Obama said. “We will preserve and protect the personal privacy and civil liberties that we cherish as Americans. Indeed, I remain firmly committed to net neutrality so we can keep the internet as it should be, open and free.”

Question remains;  should the head of cyber security in the new administration come from private industry, government or the military?
